Community: Penn State Beaver to Offer Shale Training

MONACA, Pa. — In an effort to prepare members of the local workforce for job opportunities in the Marcellus and Utica shale industry, the Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education is offering a series of training programs in conjunction with the Shale Training and Education Center (ShaleTEC) at the Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn College) in Williamsport.

ShaleTEC is a collaboration between Penn College and Penn State Extension designed to provide a wide variety of resources to the community as well as the oil and gas industry.

What’s offered

A safety orientation was scheduled all day Jan. 24.

The following courses will be held at the Regional Learning Alliance in Cranberry Township.

Shell Bluebook Orientation will be held 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 25. It describes Shell’s compliance with the law, identification and management of HSE risks, and respect for local communities.

Hazard Recognition Plus (HRP) from Decision Point Associates will be offered 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 25. The course goal is to help individuals prevent incidents by educating and coaching them on how to accurately recognize and manage hazards when planning, evaluating and conducting jobs.
