The United States Environmental Protection Agency will delay its compliance date for a rule on greenhouse gas emissions from oil and gas operations, according to Reuters.

Oil interest groups petitioned the EPA a year ago, urging it to reconsider the rules limiting emissions of methane and other pollutants from oil and gas wells and systems. Midway through April, the EPA released a statement that it would delay the regulation’s June 3 compliance date by 90 days.

During the Obama administration, the EPA released its first methane limits in May, justifying the cost to energy companies by weighing the additional benefits for consumers.
