At the end of December, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission announced it plans to review its policies in the certification of natural gas pipelines, according to a FERC press release.

In the press release, FERC Chairman Kevin McIntyre said the commission will review the Policy Statement on Certification of New Interstate Natural Gas Pipeline Facilities, which was issued in 1999, as part of a pledge he made during his Senate confirmation to take a fresh look at all aspects of the agency’s work.

In the near future, the FERC plans to announce its next steps towards reviewing the policy that governs how the commission evaluates the pipeline proposals it receives. The format and scope of the review are currently being discussed.
