Hilcorp invests in Utica Shale

Hilcorp Energy Co. has applied for three new permits to drill horizontal wells in Columbiana County, according to The Youngstown Business Journal. The investment marks the first interest the company has shown in developing new wells in the Utica Shale this year.

Hilcorp’s interest makes it one of the few energy companies still investing in the northern Utica, which includes Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio, and neighboring Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania.

Hillcorp’s applications are currently waiting for approval from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Maybe. It depends on your particular lease agreement. Some companies allow property owners a yearly free gas allowance. But, the process of connecting your property to the gas source may be more complicated. Some companies will provide a hookup, others require the landowner to provide one.
