Impact fee suggested for Pennsylvania pipelines

Pennsylvania is no stranger to pipelines. The state has thousands of miles of pipelines that transport Marcellus Shale natural gas to refineries and eventually to markets on the East Coast.

Daily Local News reports that state senators have proposed a pipeline impact fee that would help residents maintain their property values, protect natural resources and promote public safety.

The impact fee would be paid to the municipalities that pipelines cross through.

From Daily Local News:

“Under the proposed bill, the impact fee amount would be the average value of the land in the pipeline’s right-of-way. More specifically, the senators said the impact fee would be assessed in what the federal government defines as “high-consequence areas” – areas where pipelines exist near residences and businesses.”
