The Keystone 1 Pipeline hemorrhaged 383,0404 gallons of oil, affecting 4.8 acres, or 23,232 square yards of land in North Dakota at the end of October, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The actual size of the impacted area is nearly ten times the size of the original estimate of 2,500 square yards of land, which was released in initial reports by TC Energy, the company that owns the pipeline, and North Dakota’s Department of Environmental Quality.

The Keystone 1 Pipeline was shut down on October 29 after TC Energy discovered that oil had leaked from the pipe into the surrounding wetlands. It was returned to service on November 10 following approval by the US Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
