Lack of consistent definitions needed for condensates, natural gas liquids

According to Reuters, there is a lack of common definitions for condensates and natural gas liquids.

Condensate gas production has increased with the shale gas industry, and records for condensates produced at oil and gas fields are not separately kept from natural gas liquids records. Condensates, along with natural gas liquids and crude oil, are also produced at oil refineries and gas processing plants, which adds to the inconsistent definitions.

From Reuters:

“Once a definition of condensate based on API gravity is agreed, the data collection system, export controls and other parts of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations will all then need to be revamped to use the new definition.”
