Mahoning Valley teachers learn about Ohio’s shale industry

The Business Journal reports that the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program (OGEEP) recently sponsored a two-day workshop about the oil and gas industry for Mahoning Valley teachers.

The workshop featured activities that taught the educators about vertical drilling and horizontal drilling, the oil refining process, pipeline and derrick construction plus insight on Ohio’s shale energy exploration and development. Ohio is nearly energy independent due to Utica shale development in the state.

Since the oil and gas industry involves subjects like chemistry and geology, many of the lessons the teachers experienced at the workshop can be included in classroom instruction during the upcoming school year.
