The recent growth in natural gas in West Virginia has spurred pipeline activity to pick up. In the Huntington, West Virginia, nine new pipelines have been proposed, according to The State Journal.

The proposals include the Leach Xpress, Mountaineer Xpress, Buckeye Xpress and the Appalachian Storage Hub. The Appalachian Storage Hub would consist of six pipelines originating in Pennsylvania and running adjacent to West Virginia’s Ohio River border before crossing under it and passing by Marathon’s refinery in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. The Mountaineer XPress, Leach XPress and Buckeye Xpress would also carry gas from West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio to a site near the Catlettsburg refinery.

West Virginia University, in conjunction with the Benedum Foundation, is evaluating the potential for the proposed Appalachian Storage Hub.
