There won’t be any new oil and gas development in Wayne National Forest, following the recent ruling of a federal judge, according to Farm and Dairy.

The decision follows a ruling last year that determined the environmental impacts hydraulic fracturing could have on Wayne National Forest were not adequately considered by the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service.

The U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Ohio ordered a review of the Bureau of Land Management’s 2016 environmental assessment and the U.S. Forest Service’s consent to lease that gave allowed the leasing of federal land.

Although the recent order is still pending review, it prohibits new leases in Wayne National Forest, new drilling permits and surface disturbance on existing leases and withdrawing water from the Little Muskingum River to drilling that’s already occurring.
