The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved the NEXUS Gas Transmission pipeline at the end of August, clearing the way for NEXUS to build a 36-inch pipeline across parts of Columbiana, Stark and Summit counties, according to The Massillon Independent. Additionally, the approval gives NEXUS the power to take land through eminent domain.

The 255-mile pipeline will start in Columbiana  County near Hanoverton, and into Stark County across Washington, Nimishillen, Marlboro, Lake and Green townships. Some landowners and municipalities along the route oppose the $2.1 billion project.

The pipeline will be able to carry up to 1.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day from the Utica and Marcellus shales to users in Ohio, Michigan and Canada. The project will take seven to 10 months to build the pipeline.
