Ohio reaches top five for recoverable shale natural gas reserves

Ohio recently moved into the top five in the United States for recoverable shale natural gas reserves, according to Columbus Business First.

Data from the Energy Information Administration shows a 24.5 percent increase in proved shale gas reserves from 2016 to 2017 in Ohio, bringing it to 25.6 trillion cubic feet. The increase moves Ohio past Oklahoma and behind only Pennsylvania, Texas, West Virginia and Louisiana.

Proved reserves is a measure of oil and natural gas that can be recovered in the future.
