PennEast asks FERC for two-year in-service delay

Following difficulties obtaining permits and right of way in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the PennEast Pipeline has asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for a two-year extension to put its pipeline project in service, according to S&P Global Platts.
PennEast requested a new deadline of January 19, 2022, on Monday. The FERC had previously issued Natural Gas Act certificates for the pipeline project on January 19, 2018, that required the developer to put the pipeline in service by January 19, 2020.
One of the largest obstacles the project has faced is a decision by the US Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit that not only limited PennEast’s ability to use eminent domain on lands in which a state holds an interest but complicated the company’s application for a Clean Water Act permit from New Jersey.
