Pennsylvania’s Marcellus gas helped US break record in 2014 with proven reserves

A U.S. Energy Information Administration report states that 388 trillion cubic feet of natural gas was produced in 2014. 10.4 trillion cubic feet came from Pennsylvania’s Marcellus shale.

This is the first time that shale makes up more than half of the United States’ total of proven reserves, StateImpact Pennsylvania reports.

However, 2015’s proven reserves won’t come close to that number. It’s been more difficult for oil and gas producers to make a profit while prices are low.
