Shale drilling remains strong in Ohio, Pa.

In October and November, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued 269 permits for unconventional wells, according to Farm and Dairy.

The breakdown in western Pennsylvania includes 58 permits issued in Washington County; 31 permits issued in Greene County; 21 permits in Westmoreland County; 15 permits issued in Allegheny and Butler counties; and two permits issued in Beaver County.

In Ohio, there were 2,081 deep horizontal wells producing in the Utica or Point Pleasant shale plays with another 376 drilled, but are not producing as of Nov. 17, according to Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
