Trumbull County asks for injection well moratorium

Trumbull County is the first county in Ohio to ask for an injection moratorium, and it may not be the last.

Akron Beacon Journal reports that Trumbull County commissioners requested 11 recommendations to adopt before wastes could be injected into the ground. These recommendations include air quality testing, improved groundwater monitoring near injection wells, new setbacks for injection wells and mandated hours of operation for injection wells.

Trumbull County asked Ohio Gov. John Kasich to deny future injection wells, and other counties are expected to follow suit. Trumbull County has the most injection wells in the state. The county ranked third in Ohio with 2.3 million barrels of waste injected into the ground in 2014.
