The U.S. Forest Service has granted the Atlantic Coast Pipeline approval to run through the George Washington Nation Forest and Monongahela National Forest, according to the Associated Press.

About 21 miles of the 600-mile pipeline will run through National Forest Service lands, including where it will cross the Appalachian Trail.

In October, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission signed off on the $5 billion project that will carry natural gas through West Virginia and North Carolina. The project is still waiting on water certifications in North Carolina and Virginia.
