At the end of January, Kinder Morgan put into service the 270-mile Utopia pipeline system that capitalizes on Ohio’s Utica shale play, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The $500 million Utopia system was developed to deliver ethane products from eastern Ohio to Windsor, Ontario. Kinder Morgan has a long-term contract with Canada’s NOVA Chemicals Corporation, which plans to use the products as feedstock for plastic production.

The system currently transports 50,000 barrels per day but could be expanded to transport as many as 75,000 barrels per day.
