West Virginia environmental regulators have decided to retract their approval for construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a 195-mile pipeline that would transport natural gas through the center of West Virginia, according to The News & Observer.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection has decided to vacate the water quality certification it issued in March, following review of the projected impact on the state’s waters and public hearings. The decision to re-evaluate comes after five citizen groups asked a federal appeals court to overturn the approval.

The pipeline would extend south from north-central West Virginia through 11 counties to the Virginia state line and 108 miles through six counties in that state.
