WVU to advance natural gas tech in Marcellus shale

West Virginia University has joined the newest branch of the United States Department of Energy’s National Network of Manufacturing Institutes, Rapid Advancement in Process Intensification Deployment Institute or RAPID for short.

According to the Dominion Post, the idea is to focus on developing break through technologies to boost productivity and efficiency within the industry be 20 percent over the next five years.

Hu and Hanjin Tian, assistant professors in the chemical and biomedical engineering department at WVU, will address how to turn natural gas into more valuable chemicals and plastics and how to do this at the wellhead.

The Department of Energy brought together more than 130 partners from academia, industry, government laboratories and non-governmental organizations across the country.
