Ohio landowner conference includes session on Marcellus gas leases

CANFIELD, Ohio — Whether you have five acres or 100, whether you are a hobby farmer, new landowner or veteran producer, the 2010 Northeast Ohio Landowner Conference Nov. 6 can help you develop and protect your land investment.

The conference, coordinated by Ohio State University Extension and the Ohio Woodland Stewards Program, is designed to help people manage their woods, fields and waters.

The daylong program will be held at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road, Canfield. The conference runs from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; registration opens at 8:15 a.m.

Lots to learn

Participants can mix and match individual sessions in three tracks: new landowners; veteran landowners; and wildlife/aquatics.

Topics include wildlife food plots, tree identification, algae in ponds, estate planning, managing for songbirds, black bears in Ohio, insect and disease threats to trees, invasive woodland and aquatic plants, and myths and truths about coyotes.

Land leases

Also covered will be tools for improving woodlands, leasing land for oil and gas production, developing a plan to protect one’s investment, and evaluating the feasibility of natural resource-based enterprises.

Instructors will be specialists with OSU Extension.

Registration

Registration costs $40 per person, includes lunch, snacks and all materials, and is due Oct. 29.
