Mid-year review shows Guernsey County in the lead for shale

The mid-year report for gas and oil companies shows that in Ohio, Guernsey County is a hot pick for gas and oil companies. Ohio Gas & Oil reports that 13 companies have received permits for drilling, are drilling or have already drilled in the southeastern Ohio county.

Chesapeake Energy out of Oklahoma City, Okla. comes out in the lead for the number of counties where they have Utica shale operations. Nine counties currently see Chesapeake activity, noting up to 201 producing wells in Carroll County alone.

Antero Resources Corporation is the current front-runner for Marcellus shale, with activity in Monroe County and Noble County. In addition, Antero boasts the biggest-producing well, aptly named The Monster.

A total of 31 gas and oil companies have taken an interest in eastern Ohio’s Marcellus and Utica shales.
