Amidst concerns about environmental impacts and eminent domain, an energy company continues to move forward with its permit for a natural gas pipeline in Massachusetts. This project is an addition to Kinder Morgan’s Tennessee Gas pipeline and would span the area between New York City and Boston.
The New York Times reports that about half of New England’s energy comes from natural gas, so it is a vital resource that must be developed in order to increase the natural gas supply as other energy sources like oil and coal and phased out.
Much like the disagreements in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio over fracking, residents of New England are questioning how the proposed pipeline would affect the environment and their everyday lives. Other residents are in favor of the pipeline since it is expected to solve the energy issue.
