No Shale Boom Guaranteed for the Utica

Though many in the oil and gas industry trumpeted the success of the Utica at the Crain’s Shale Summit 2014 on Thursday, one industry analyst, G. Allen Brooks,  had more sobering comments about the shale play, according to The Plain Dealer.

Brooks said, “The biggest problem is that we don’t have a lot of knowledge about this formation and how will it will be producing as we go forward.”

There’s growth, but what’s the in the long-term?

Tom Stewart, executive vice president of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association, made more bullish comments earlier in the conference — touting the 56 percent increase in development over the past year.

Stewart did let his concerns known about proposed regulations that increase taxes on the industry.

Read it:

“During his remarks, he talked against some of the provisions inserted into the current proposal to increase state taxes on the industry, and warned that high taxes could squash or at least slow down any imagined boom.”
