Foam useful for fighting shale-related fires

Sometimes using water to fight shale-related fires isn’t the most effective method.
That’s why emergency personnel are learning to use foam when fighting fires caused by Marcellus Shale industry activity, according to Observer-Reporter. In Washington County, Pennsylvania, emergency personnel have completed training exercises using foam. Foam works well to combat fires that involve fuel and oil.

“The foam acts almost like a blanket on what is burning, holding down the vapors and keeping them from reigniting.”
