In the ten years since fracking began in the Marcellus shale, progress can be seen.
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that fracking has come a long way since 2004. Now, production techniques have been honed and environmental safeguards have been taken into consideration.
In the future, there will likely be changes to water management practices. Ten years into the business, and challenges such as water use, contamination and wastewater affect companies.

“Companies have struggled while dealing with wastewater, including Range and Downtown-based EQT Corp., both of which the DEP recently fined more than $4 million each for leaks from large water impoundments.”
