Final approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has been granted for the 124-mile natural gas pipeline that will connect Marcellus Shale wells in Northeast Pennsylvania to markets in New York and New England, reports Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
The 30-inch diameter Constitution pipeline will transport 650 million cubic feet of natural gas from Susquehanna County to a pipeline in New York and New England. In the northeast section of the Marcellus Shale, prices have been low since the area’s dry gas isn’t as valuable as wet gas, but a demand for gas in New York and New England will create positive change.
The pipeline project was first proposed in 2012 by Williams Co., Cabot Oil & Gas Corp., Piedmont Natural Gas Co. and WGL Holdings Inc. and should be completed in late 2015 or early 2016.
