A January 2014 landslide and July 2014 wastewater spill at a southwestern Pennsylvania well pad will cost Vantage Energy about $1 million, reports Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
The landslide occurred at the Marcellus Shale well pad in Franklin, Greene County. Vantage Energy did not attempt to prevent the landslide. A contractor dumped two truckloads of wastewater in July, and the company then ceased production at the site and at others after the spill.
Although no toxic pollution was detected, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection maintains that the damage done to the state’s natural resources damaged by blockage and sediment in streams.
