Summit County Council adopted a resolution opposing the construction of a high-pressure natural gas pipeline that would impact several communities in Summit and Medina Counties. Recently, New Franklin City leaders also passed a resolution opposing the pipeline’s proposed path, too.
According to Akron Beacon Journal, the proposed 42-inch diameter Nexus pipeline would pass close to Portage Lakes Career Center, schools, homes, churches and a fire department.
Some residents voiced their opinions at the meeting, stating that the pipeline company isn’t looking out for the safety of residents or the community, and that Texas-based Nexus won’t have anyone monitoring the pipeline, so residents will have to monitor for leaks and report them to the company.
