Plans halted for Petersburg, Ohio, gas processing plant

The proposed multi-million dollar gas processing plant that Blue Racer Midstream LLC planned to build in Petersburg, Ohio, has been tabled for now, The Business Journal reports.
Blue Racer Midstream LLC executive vice president Scott Williams says the plant isn’t completely out of the question in the future, but it’s not viable now. The proposed gas processing plant’s location in the northern Utica Shale hasn’t yet shown signs of sufficient oil and gas production. The southern Utica Shale is just the opposite; Monroe, Belmont and Noble Counties have booming production.
Blue Racer’s initial plans were to build a midstream network between it’s processing plant in Natrium, West Virginia, to three processing plants in Berne, Lewis and Petersburg. The Berne cryogenic plant in Monroe County is operating and plans to add 200 million cubic feet per day. Plans for the Lewis plant in Harrison County are moving forward.

What is fracking?
Fracking is a slang term for hydraulic fracturing. Fracturing is a process by which highly pressurized fluid is pumped thousands of feet into the ground to fracture rock formations. The goal is to release the natural gas that’s locked inside the rock.
Is it safe?
What most concerns people about fracturing is ground water contamination. The worry is that fractures underground, caused by the process, will extending upwards and into aquifers, releasing gas and chemicals into the ground water supply. There’s been no confirmed reports of such a thing happening. Though surface spills and drill site blowouts can lead to localized environmental concerns.
Will my water catch on fire?
Flammable water is caused by the release of methane gas into a drinking water supply. Methane gas occurs naturally and can be released by any kind of drilling, including water wells. In Pennsylvania officials fined Chesapeake Energy $1 million for contaminating ground water with methane. It was determined that the company had not properly cemented it’s boreholes and gas migrated up the well, between rock and into aquifers.
Northern Utica not producing as yet ?
Wonder why ?
Could it be no infrastructure developed yet ?
Could it be that the northern Utica is therefore largely undeveloped ?
Could it be the market is flooded with production by the Saudi Arabian / OPEC cartel ?
Could it be our government’s stonewalling domestic and North American O & G development not to mention domestic economic recovery and is more interested in the world economy than our own ?
I’d answer yes to all of the above myself.
