Low commodity prices have prompted oil and gas producers to cut back on drilling, which is showing in rig counts, Pittsburgh Business Times reports.
Pennsylvania’s rig count is now at its lowest since August 2009. As of March 6, there were 47 rigs running, according to Baker Hughes.
Across the U.S., rig counts have fallen by 75 to 1,133. In the Marcellus Shale, the rig count now stands at 62, down six. However, as producers form more productive wells, they don’t necessarily need to drill as many total wells.
