In the next decade, officials estimate that several thousand miles of Marcellus Shale interstate pipelines will be built in Pennsylvania, in addition to 25,000 to 35,000 miles of gathering pipelines. The Morning Call reports that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is proposing the creation of a pipeline task force to monitor the pipeline development.
The task force would include pipeline companies, nonprofits, municipalities and conservation agencies. The aim of the task force would be to reduce community impact and improve economic efficiency while planning pipeline projects.
