Trans Energy fined for Clean Water Act violations in West Virginia

In Marshall County, West Virginia, an oil and gas exploration company has been fined $600,000 and has been placed on two years of probation for dumping rock, sand, soil and stone into streams that supply water to Marcellus Shale well sites, according to WDTV.
These actions violate the Clean Water Act, which was enacted to restore the United States’ water and maintain it. Trans Energy pleaded guilty to three counts of “Negligent Discharge of Pollutants without a Permit,” according to the news station.
