Pittsburgh Post-Gazette PowerSource reports that one Pennsylvania company is working to create a quiet environment around natural gas compressor stations that take gas away from well pads by way of pipelines.
Engineers from Steel Nation, Inc., based in Washington, Pennsylvania, work to lessen the noise emitted from natural gas compressor stations. Steel Nation originally worked with coal companies to reduce noise, but when the Marcellus Shale boom began, the company transitioned to serving the oil and gas industry.
According to the newspaper, Steel Nation installs structures that enclose the engines and fans at compressor stations, which allows minimal noise to escape. So far, Steel Nation has completed 400 stations, most of which are in Pennsylvania.
