According to U.S. Energy Information Administration, new fertilizer and methanol plants will support the demand for natural gas through 2016. Natural gas is used for bulk chemicals.

Many of the proposed methanol plants will be located near the Gulf Coast. A few will be in the Pacific Northwest. Several fertilizer plants are in the works in the agricultural areas like the Midwest, where companies can take advantage of domestic natural gas production.

By the end of this year, industrial natural gas consumption is projected to average 21.7 Bcf/d annually. By 2016, industrial natural gas consumption is expected to rise by almost 4 percent.
