Map shows proximity of Texas population to oil and gas wells

Around 2.3 million Texans live within a half-mile radius of the state’s 398,787 active oil and gas wells. Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that 904 schools and 78 medical facilities are within that half-mile range as well.
An interactive map created by Earthworks shows the residents, schools, medical facilities and wells, bringing awareness of the potential threat of pollution to the forefront. Certain studies have shown that close proximity to oil and gas wells causes an increase in air pollutants, but Earthworks isn’t saying that those within the half-mile radius of wells are in imminent danger.
According to the source, there are 12.4 million people across the United States who live within a half-mile radius of oil and gas wells.
