The United States Environmental Protection Agency is moving forward with rewriting a methane regulation opposed by the oil and gas industry, following a federal court ruling that blocked the agency from delaying the rule for as long as two years, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The industry considers the Obama-era rule, which aims to reduce methane emissions from oil and gas drilling, costly and unnecessary.
The regulation was scheduled to go into effect in June, but EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt ordered a 90-day delay that he tried to extend two years before environmental groups sued.
