Geologic study confirms ethane storage hub possibility

Following a yearlong study of geologic sites in 50 counties, a West Virginia University research team determined multiple sites could support a proposed Appalachian Storage Hub for ethane, according to the Observer-Reporter.
Although the details of the study are highly technical, they show the Appalachian Basin could support the project, and build a petrochemical industry that is already present in the region. Aside from being able to support a storage hub geologically, the region also produces a third of the nation’s natural gas and is abundant in ethane.
The study was funded by a $100,000 grant from the Benedum Foundation and matched by contributions from numerous oil and gas companies in the region.
