At the beginning of the month, Consol Energy reported Marcellus Shale production increased 17 percent and its Utica Shale production dropped 11 percent in the third quarter when compared to the same quarter from last year, according to Kallanish Energy. However, despite the drop in Utica production, the totals are trending upward.

In the most recent quarter, Utica production was 20.1 billion cubic feet-equivalent, which was down from 22.5 Bcfe in the same quarter a year ago. It attributes the deficit to natural production declines in the Utica’s wet shale areas in Ohio.

However, Consol also notes that Utica production was up 45 percent from the second quarter of this year, and is expecting fourth quarter production to see an increase of 66 percent over the third quarter.
