A week ago, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission gave Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Co. LLC permission to construct two sections of looping pipeline in north-central Pennsylvania, allowing the company to use three adjacent contractor yards for its Atlantic Sunrise pipeline project, according to Natural Gas Intelligence.

The FERC approved construction of the Chapman Loo and Unity Loop as part of the $3 billion, 198-mile Atlantic Sunrise natural gas pipeline project. The Chapman Loop will consist of 2.5 miles of 36-inch diameter looping pipeline, which will be built in Clinton County. The Unity Loop will be composed of 8.5 miles of 42-inch diameter looping pipeline, which will be constructed in Lycoming County.

The FERC’s authorization for the loops came eight days after it denied a request from a coalition of environmental groups for a rehearing or stay over the proposed pipeline, ruling many of its opponents lacked standing in the case and others missed important deadlines for the review process.
