The Pennsylvania Senate is trying to block a key part of Gov. Tom Wolf’s climate agenda, according to State Impact Pennsylvania.
The Wolf Administration has been working on a rule to enable the state to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative for two years and plans to join next year. The rule would require power plants to pay for each ton of carbon dioxide they emit, raising the cost of polluting and making dirtier sources of energy more expensive and less competitive on the electric grid. It is intended to make cleaner sources of power to be used more often.
However, the Senate passed a resolution disapproving the rule in a vote that was just shy of a two-thirds, veto-proof majority at 32-18. The resolution moves onto the House.
