The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has extended the Mountain Valley Pipeline’s deadline to complete construction and enter service to Oct. 13, 2026, according to Natural Gas Intelligence.

The extension follows the passage if the Inflation Reduction Act, which relied on support from Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) in exchange for a pledge from Democratic leaders to finish the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The FERC’s recent action could bode well for the natural gas transmission line’s political and regulatory future.

The Mountain Valley Pipeline had previously received a two-year extension in 202, which gave it until October to be placed into service.
