SALEM, Ohio — Founded in 1937, Witmer’s Inc. is committed to serving farmers with agricultural equipment, sales, service and parts.

Witmer’s moved to its present location, at 39821 state Route 14 in Salem, Ohio, in 1947. The company expanded and remodeled its facilities in 1997.

Witmer’s carries AGCO, Massey Ferguson, Fendt, Gleaner, Sunflower, Great Plains, Mustang, Pequea, Woods, Meyer and others. It also carries Massey Ferguson lawn and garden equipment and offers building construction, serving commercial and agricultural markets and featuring Butler and Lester pre-engineered buildings.

The company president is Nelson Witmer and the CEO is Ralph Witmer. They employ 28 full time workers and four part timers. New employees include operations manager, Kerm Hall; Danny Lacefield in building sales; and Jason Hephner in rural lifestyle equipment sales.

Growth

During the past year Witmer’s Inc. updated its showroom, added Massey Ferguson lawn and garden equipment to its lineup of products and expanded the guidance system technology division, said Nelson Witmer.

“Guidance system technology will see major growth in the years ahead,” said Witmer. “We will invest in technology and training in this area.”

The company will also expand its construction division in both the agricultural and commercial markets.

The Marcellus shale development will also affect the company, said Witmer.

“As demand for farm equipment increases our customers are needing to pre-plan purchases more than ever before. Technology will continue to play an increasing role in farming operations.” he said. “We have seen significant growth in business this year — certainly some can be attributed to local acreage being leased for gas rights.”

Future plans

Witmer’s Inc. will celebrate 75 years in business next year and intends to remain committed to the industry and customers it serves.

“With a fourth generation of family members interested in working the business we are focused on continuing to provide excellence in products and services and expertise to our community and valued customers,” said Witmer.
