On July 13, Akron City Council unanimously voted against House Bill 8, which would have allowed public land to be included in drilling units without permission from the public entity, Akron Beacon Journal reports. Summit Metro Parks recently came to the same decision.
The newspaper explains that the bill would have allowed landowners adjacent to the park to include park acreage in their acreage when applying for a drilling permit. According to Metro Parks interim director Mike Johnson, the bill would have taken away local control over drilling.
