A little over a week ago, a Bradford County couple filed a lawsuit against Chesapeake Energy Corp., alleging that the company improperly reduced royalty payments.

Now, Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane’s office has accused Chesapeake of cheating Pennsylvania mineral rights owners out of royalties. According to The Patriot-News, the lawsuit was filed Dec. 9, claiming that Chesapeake did not disclose all information to mineral rights owners. Chesapeake will fight against the allegations.

According to the newspaper, the lawsuit is seeking $1,000 for each violation of the Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law. However, if the victim is 60 years old or older, $3,000 is being sought.

All I’ve heard from, or about, Chesapeake, since signing my lease agreement, is bad news. It’s been three years, and they haven’t even drilled the well, yet, although they appear to have done quite a bit of damage to local farms and roads putting in pipelines and infrastructure. I wonder what will happen if they do ever drill “our” well. I don’t expect anything good to come from Chesapeake, any more.
