After spending the last couple of years exploring the horizontal well potential in north central Ohio, Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. has ceased operations in the Ashland and Richland County area, according to Farm and Dairy.
The Houston-based energy company, which operates Marcellus shale wells in Pennsylvania, hoped to extract oil and gas from its exploratory Ohio wells; however, decided to end drilling following poor production results from its first wells. In addition, it will close its office in Jeromesville.
Cabot constructed four well pads in the area, and sought lease amendments from landowners through 2018, hoping for additional horizontal wells in the future.
