Chesapeake Energy Corp. has launched a pilot program with environmental monitoring company Project Canary to watch methane emissions more closely and earn a certification that natural gas from its Marcellus and Haynesville shale wells is responsibly produced, according to Natural Gas Intelligence.
The agreement includes installing methane gas monitors at select well pads in the Marcellus and Haynesville shale fields. According to the companies, the agreement could be expanded in time.
Chesapeake will utilize Project Canary’s on-site emissions monitoring technology and its TrustWell certification process to verify that the natural gas is responsibly produced, using the highest environmental standards possible.
