Akron Beacon Journal reports that Chesapeake Energy Corp. won’t be drilling any more wells in Ohio’s Utica shale this year. The company will also cease operations in Pennsylvania’s Marcellus shale.
Youngstown State University Professor Jeffrey Dick, who is also chair of the geology and environmental sciences department, says that it isn’t clear yet if Chesapeake’s decision will affect Ohio’s economy.
According to the source, Chesapeake’s two rigs operating in Carroll and Harrison counties late last year are no longer in operation. Chesapeake has led the way in Ohio’s Utica and Pennsylvania’s Marcellus. The company intends to put some previously drilled wells into production this year in both states.
