Even though the bulk of successful wells lie in the southern tier of the Utica Shale, Columbiana County’s wells are showing potential.
The Business Journal reports that oil and natural gas wells in Center Township are some of the best in the Utica shale.
One Lisbon, Ohio farmer reaping the benefits from leasing mineral rights to Chesapeake is Bob Crosser. In 87 days, his well produced 301.6 mcf. Up to six more wells could be drilled on his well pad in the future. However, one quarter’s production reports don’t guarantee that the numbers will remain that high every quarter.
From The Business Journal:
“It’s not unusual for energy companies to increase initial production at well sites so they can boost their shareholders and investors’ confidence, the geologist [Jeff Dick, chairman Youngstown State University’s geology department] explains. But doing so reduces pressure for future production, leading to higher decline rates and making it harder to extract natural gas liquids.”
