Columbus Business First reports that the company planning to build a $5.7 billion ethane cracker plant in Belmont County was offered incentives for choosing Ohio over other locations.
JobsOhio, a private corporation that promotes Ohio’s economic development, offered PTT Global Chemical Public Company Ltd. job-creation tax credits, workforce training grants, local tax credits and infrastructure improvement grants as a way to persuade the company to choose the Belmont County location.
The plant will convert natural gas from the Utica and Marcellus shale plays into various chemical products. The plant’s location is central to ethane pipelines that will allow for flexible delivery of products.
The cracker plant is expected to create thousands of jobs for skilled trades workers. PTT has teamed up with Japanese company Marubeni Corp., but is looking for a third partner.
